Harambe Stars

The Harambee Stars represent Kenya in international football and are governed by the Football Kenya Federation . Coached by Benni McCarthy since early 2025, the team’s captain is striker Michael Olunga . The nickname “Harambee Stars” was adopted in December 1976 to embody the Swahili spirit of unity and teamwork . Typically playing home matches at Nyayo National Stadium, the team returned to sell‑out crowds in March 2025 after major upgrades. Though Kenya has competed in multiple AFCON tournaments (including 1972, 2004, 2019), they have yet to emerge past the group stage. They’ve won the CECAFA Cup several times, while making their first serious push toward World Cup qualification for 2026 under McCarthy’s leadership . Emerging talents like Eric “Marcelo” Ouma have impressed in recent qualifiers and drawn comparisons to elite-level players.
